Earth Sciences and Engineering Job Description
The Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering (ESE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track/tenured faculty position to fill the Karl F. Hasselmann Missouri Professorship in geological and petroleum engineering, beginning in August 2026. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in geothermal energy, geotechnical engineering, and engineering aspects related to critical mineral exploration and extraction. The Karl F. Hasselmann Missouri Professorship, established in 1999 as a generously endowed position with a substantial annual expendable, is awarded to a scholar who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the field of geological and petroleum engineering. Leadership is specifically defined as personal integrity, demonstrated achievements, recognition of these achievements by peers, and outstanding ability as a communicator. This position emphasizes student education; therefore, the holder of the professorship is expected to teach 2-3 courses per semester. Qualifications
The educational requirements may be met through a Ph.D. in geological engineering, petroleum engineering, or closely related discipline, or through a M.S. in one of the above fields with 15 or more years of related industry experience. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of successful teaching and research, and significant experience in either industry or academia are desired. Application Materials
