Position Summary

The Software Simulations and Controls (SSC) Deputy is a new role being created to assist and support the head of OTECH's SSC group. The SSC supports the software and analysis needs of OTECH, and the Deputy role will help address group needs under the SSC Manager.


Duties And Responsibilities
  • Write and help implement internal policies and procedures for the SSC group.
  • Monitor the quality of software work products (including DevOps) and proactively address areas of concern.
  • Contribute to policies and procedures external to the group (such as corporate software standards, quality, or engineering).
  • Functionally manage SSC members.
  • Participate in SSC hiring and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate and help purchase software licensing and overhead equipment such as monitors, electrical monitoring tools, boards, or signal convertors.
  • Work with corporate IT to address issues and craft implementation for new capabilities/practices.
  • Interface with the Oceaneering Software Center of Excellence and other Oceaneering business units to ensure OTECH is following company procedures and best practices.
  • Review proposal efforts including Statements of Work (SoW)/Performance Work Statements (PWS), Basis of Estimates (BoE) and
  • Rough Orders of Magnitude (ROM).
  • Evaluate opportunities and provide go/no go assessments.
  • Assess work progress via events such as design reviews or Monthly Increment Program Reviews.
  • Work with engineering leads and program managers to proactively find and address problems.
  • Function as SSC Manager when they are out of office.
  • Review progress and evaluate results of work accomplished by self and others.
  • Prepare reports and presents results to management and client.
  • Demonstrate ability to devise innovative solutions to problems when conventional solutions are insufficient.
  • Support occasional travel needs.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL:

  • BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in software engineering for hardware-based products.
  • Experience supporting government programs.
  • Experience mentoring and managing software engineers.
  • Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering issues to team members and customers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working with robotic or underwater systems.
  • Understanding of CI/CD output from a metrics perspective. Including tools and environments such as: Github, Jira, Artifactory or Azure.

Additional Information

This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
