Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Job may require additional hours as needed. Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: This position leads a team of safety and training professionals in pursuit of safe work methods, training/education, and a strong culture of continuous improvement at a variety of power generation and training facilities. This position must maintain healthy and constructive partnerships with employees from all levels of the Company, outside agencies, and with Company union partners to communicate and collaborate transparently on safety and training related items. The role provides direction and helps to create and execute Evergy Safety programs to maintain compliance with Evergy safety rules, OSHA and other regulatory agency requirements and ultimately prevent injury to employees. This position directs technical training programs and initiatives for generation operation and maintenance employees. This includes, but is not limited to, skilled craft apprentice training programs, operator qualification programs, and targeted training opportunities for journeyman positions. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Lead a high performing team of trainers and safety professionals to develop and support generation employees * Provide guidance and deliver safety programs and rules that are effective in maintaining compliance with safety regulations, engage employees, and reduce injury and hazards * Provide guidance and oversee generation training programs, including Department of Labor craft apprenticeships, journeyman level training, operator training and other training initiatives * Evaluate safety and training programs for effectiveness, continuous improvement, and alignment with overall company goals and culture * Provide creative solutions, knowing the unique challenges of working in a high-hazard environment, by collaborating with operational leaders and employees * Collaborate with generation employees at all levels to ensure partnership, proper prioritization of safety and training initiatives, and effectiveness of programs through a wide variety of delivery methods * Meet with and collaborate with union leadership on safety and training initiatives, including apprenticeship programs * Present safety and training strategies and/or material to a wide variety of audiences in manner they can comprehend * Manage and allocate resources across multiple functions * Actively participate on safety and training teams and committees, including the coordination of investigations and follow-up on events involving Evergy employees and stakeholders, as appropriate * Promote and support the current direction of the corporation through consistent communication and leadership
Education and Experience Requirements: * A high school diploma or GED is required * A degree or trade school certification in a field such as engineering, safety, business, communications, or education is highly preferred * Incumbents at this level must possess at least 8 years of related experience in electric utility operations or related industrial operations * Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, managing a team of people, setting direction, deploying resources is required. Must demonstrate the ability to contribute to the development of strategic plans and/or department strategy * Experience with power generating facilities, safety programming and regulations, labor unions, and training development is preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: * Experience is preferred in OSHA regulations including 29CFR 1910 and 1926, and knowledge of utility specific work and related hazards * Experience is preferred with the design and evaluation of training programs, including knowledge of the training life cycle and systematic approach to training concepts * Experience with Bargaining Unit Agreements, project management and/or change management is preferred. * The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills Candidate will be able to analyze data to create an appropriate action plan * Candidate must maintain a high level of professionalism at all times and possess a dynamic attitude toward solving problems and working with other team members. * Candidate must be able to communicate and present topics and concepts to a wide variety of audiences * Candidate must possess strong Microsoft Office product skills (Word. Working Conditions: Working conditions will vary from office to field environment, including at Generation Facilities. Travel to other locations within the company is required.Must be able to work additional hours, both indoors and outdoors, on short notice in all types of weather depending on employee related emergencies, workload, project deadlines, and internal customer needs.
