Role and Responsibilities

The Medium Voltage Drive Specialist supports the dredge with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation (EIA) system.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation Manager and reports to the VP Technical Department on equipment-related issues when the EI&A Manager is on leave.

  • Electrical system includes installation, troubleshooting, and repair of AC/DC and synchronous motors, MCC's switchgears, controls, fault protection relays, breakers, and transformers.
  • Instrumentation system includes installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Instrumentation that includes Pressure Transmitters, flow meters, level transducers, RTD/Thermocouple temperature sensors, light switches, proximity switches, encoders, etc.
  • Automation systems include the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of PLC and computer systems, network switches, and any other related components.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair medium voltage drive systems efficiently and accurately.
  • Design and implement tailored drive system solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise to maximize uptime and performance.
  • Work hands-on with Danfoss and Avid medium voltage drives.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance programs for site equipment.
  • Ensure timely completion of repairs and maintain equipment in optimal condition.
  • Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on dredges and support equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and enforce safe equipment use.
  • Support logistics for repairs and upgrades.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years with Danfoss and Avid medium voltage drive systems.
  • Proven background in installation, maintenance, repair, and design of medium voltage drives.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work at remote locations for extended durations.
  • Commitment to safety and ability to comply with company regulations.
  • Must be reliable, motivated, and capable of managing stress in demanding environments.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Core Competencies: teamwork, results-driven mindset, composure under pressure.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and the location where the work is being done.

In addition, a Port Engineer must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at a peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
