Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Hudson Valley has an extension center in Malta, NY known as HVCC North and sponsors the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy, NY. With more than 80,000 alumni and nearly 1,000 employees, the college and is a catalyst for educational opportunity and economic development in the Capital Region of New York State.

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Education, Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Relations or related field. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in public policy, government affairs or community relations. Demonstrated experience in higher education policy and legislative processes. Excellent organizational, administrative, computer, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, and the ability to work with confidential information. Experience in developing and executing legislative strategies and campaigns is preferred.
Nature and Scope of Duties:
The Director of External Affairs and Government Relations reports to the President and performs the following duties:
o Stewards on behalf of the President highly confidential information and is the liaison between the internal and external stakeholders on key matters.
o Evaluates and reviews new and existing legislative initiatives [local (city/county), state and federal] for development of strategic partnerships to support the College mission and initiatives.
o Liaison to SUNY Offices, regarding external affairs and public policy, as well as others assigned by the President,
o Represents the President with internal and external campus constituencies, external businesses, governmental and non-for-profit leaders.
o Partners with and builds relationships across the College to externally exchange information, collaborate on projects, and share resources.
o Supports the Academic Vice President, Deans and Department Chairs on Advisory Board recruitment.
o Serves as a point of contact for local, (city/county) state, federal, international relations, and public policy for concerns relative to the President.
o Supports the College on matters that directly impact state and federal grants and private funding opportunities, identifying and applying that align with the presidents strategic and program initiatives.
o Secure business and industry partners to include regional employers, chambers of commerce, local and regional economic development organizations, trade associations, labor unions and community-based organizations.
o Cultivate and maintain professional contacts with other higher education institutions, professional organizations, associations concerning existing and developing community initiatives, and seeks opportunities for joint ventures and partnerships.
o Plan and manage resource requirement for the office of External Affairs and Government Relations including supervision, staffing, budgets, and equipment.
o Required to work evenings and weekends, and travel domestically.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time 12-month, Management Confidential position with a salary range of $80,000.00 to $90,000.00.
