Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of the General Shops Member position is to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled manual tasks in the areas of
HVAC maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The position also provides general labor support to the Facilities Unit within University Housing.
Tasks include:
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks throughout the residence halls.
- Assisting residential areas with pick up and deliveries.
- Properly disposing of unwanted materials as needed.
- Assisting residential ares with maintenance projects.
- Maintaining condition of department vehicles, tools, supplies, and shop environment.
- Assisting with retrieval and closing of work orders.

Other Responsibilities |
- This position has designated as Essential Personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
- This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Other Required Qualifications |
- General knowledge of the principles and techniques of HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and plumbing is required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Skill in the use of trade tools, and physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally.
