C Technologies, Inc. seeks an Advanced Writing Instructor to work closely with and under the supervision of the Program Manager to provide advanced-level academic writing instruction and research guidance for graduate students, enhancing their writing, critical thinking, and research skills.


Summary

The Advanced Writing Instructor will deliver high-level instruction and individualized coaching to improve graduate students' academic writing, critical thinking, and research capabilities. The position requires expertise in graduate-level pedagogy, research methods, and academic publication standards, as well as strong collaboration and communication skills.


Responsibilities


  • Provide classroom and one-on-one instruction in graduate-level writing, critical thinking, and research methods.



  • Develop and deliver lesson plans covering advanced writing fundamentals, including organization, structure, grammar, and academic conventions.



  • Guide students in critical thinking, argumentation, reasoning, and research-based writing.



  • Model and enforce academic norms and standards, including citation styles, plagiarism prevention, literature reviews, abstracts, and executive summaries.



  • Mentor students in producing academic-quality theses, dissertations, or conference papers.



  • Use classroom management software (e.g., Blackboard or Sakai), presentation tools, and originality-check software (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate).



  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet mutual program goals.



  • Produce original written work and maintain up-to-date instructional materials reflecting best practices in graduate-level academic writing.




Requirements
Education


  • Minimum Master's degree in English, literature, journalism, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or a related writing-intensive field from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.50.



  • For instructors teaching Technical Writing in the Department of Defense Analysis, a doctoral degree in one of the above fields is required.



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a social science, science, technology, or engineering field are encouraged to apply if they also hold a master's degree in a writing-intensive field.




Experience


  • At least seven years of one-on-one work with graduate students to improve writing, critical thinking, or research skills.



  • At least three years of teaching experience in writing and critical thinking at the graduate level; preference given to candidates with teaching awards.



  • Record of significant academic work, such as a thesis, dissertation, single-author final-project report, academic conference paper, or publication in an academic journal or by an academic press.



  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and achieve mutual goals.



  • Proven record of producing original written work.




Tools and Software


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, classroom presentation software, and classroom management platforms such as Blackboard or Sakai.



  • Experience with videoconferencing tools such as Zoom or MS Teams.



  • Familiarity with originality-check software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate.




Knowledge and Skills


  • Strong mastery of English-language academic writing fundamentals, including grammar, structure, style, and prewriting strategies.



  • Deep understanding of critical thinking, argumentation, and reasoning.



  • Knowledge of graduate-level teaching pedagogy and research methods.



  • Familiarity with academic norms and standards, including citation styles, plagiarism avoidance, and the production of literature reviews, abstracts, and executive summaries.



  • Commitment to high academic standards and honor codes.



  • Strong computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, videoconferencing, file sharing, and project management/reporting.



  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
