Maintenance & Facilities Department

The Maintenance & Facilities Department is looking for qualified candidates to fill an opening as an Electrician. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Standard electrical tasks include working on primary and secondary voltage systems, transformers, VFDs, switchgear, lighting, DC and AC systems, solar panels, and other related equipment and systems. Additionally, all maintenance staff, regardless of specialty, will at times be asked to work on any and all aspects of a typical facilities department as conditions dictate. This could include anything from hanging Christmas lights to working on our train tracks to helping unclog a drain in an emergency situation. Maintain a current knowledge of industry standards and developments.
Qualifications: High School graduate with related experience. Applicant must be able to demonstrate strong competency and experience in electrical systems maintenance. Extensive knowledge of primary and secondary power systems is required, including main switchgears, electrical panels, lighting systems, motors and general equipment maintenance. Applicant must also demonstrate at least a fundamental, working understanding of high voltage systems, including grounding systems, fuses, and transformer maintenance. Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds without mechanical assistance. Must have a valid driver's license and must be insurable through the Zoo's carrier.
Due to the unique diversity of work required at an institution like a zoo, flexibility and a desire to help out in any and all situations is a must. A positive attitude is required in order to be considered for this position.
Working Conditions:
Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer, pre-employment drug and nicotine screen and background check.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; grasp; and negotiate stairs and ladders. In addition, the employee is regularly exposed
to hazardous conditions, equipment, and situations &
outside weather conditions. Employee will be required to successfully complete all related trainings for the role, including but not limited to: Arc Flash, Fork Lift, Aerial Lift, etc.
This position will involve the use of forklifts and aerial lifts.

Position Details & Benefits: Starting pay rate will be between $22.27 - $30.54/hour, depending upon skills & experience. This is a full-time benefit-eligible position and is subject to the successful completion of a probationary period and the deduction of union dues.
Position will require working at least one weekend day.
