Physical Therapist Assistant

Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in delivering therapeutic interventions to support patients in overcoming physical or developmental challenges. This position focuses on improving safety in the home, reducing hospitalizations, and educating patients and caregivers on diagnoses, treatments, available resources, and necessary equipment.

The PTA helps coordinate efforts to achieve discharge goals by enhancing mobility and activities of daily living, ensuring patients reach their highest level of function. Through collaboration with the Physical Therapist and other healthcare disciplines, the PTA promotes self-management of care, empowering patients and caregivers. As a patient advocate, this role prioritizes compassionate and effective treatment to enhance overall quality of life.

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)

• Associate Degree in Physical Therapy
• Certificate Physical Therapy Assistant
• Requires detailed knowledge of physical therapy in terms of what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Basic understanding of the rules and regulations of the specific setting
• BLS Required at time of Hire
• Current drivers license and auto insurance

• Patient Care: Treats patients in routine home visits using therapeutic interventions to improve physical function and independence.

• Knowledge & Expertise: Requires detailed knowledge of physical therapy and understanding of patient growth and development across the lifespan.

• Rehabilitation Program: Follows a comprehensive rehab plan designed to address physical, psychosocial, and environmental needs.

• Discharge Planning: Coordinates efforts toward discharge goals set by the primary physical therapist.

• Education & Instruction: Provides home program guidance and preventive measures to patients, families, and caregivers.

• Documentation & Communication: Maintains timely records and communicates patient status, treatment responses, and concerns to the physical therapist and healthcare team.

• Patient Independence: Promotes self-determination by leveraging external resources for optimal independence.

• Compliance & Safety: Adheres to policies, quality assurance, and infection control standards.

• Team Collaboration: Participates in meetings, conferences, and educational activities.

• Quality Improvement: Engages in continuous quality improvement initiatives.

• Workload Management: Maintains departmental productivity standards.

• Mentorship: Assists in precepting newly hired assistants or students.

• Holiday & Weekend Coverage: Provides patient care as required during holidays and weekends.
