Union Pacific is looking for creative and dynamic Corporate Communications Interns to join our team. This internship is more than a role; it's a chance to contribute to a company that's been Building America for more than 160 years. As our intern, you'll draft news releases, create engaging social media content and help execute multimedia campaigns. We're looking for someone with skills across the communications field, including writing, video editing, photography and graphic design. At Union Pacific, we prioritize growth and learning. This position offers a flexible 20-hour work week in person at UP Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The estimated wage for this position is between $21-$30 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Accountabilities
Content Creation and Campaign Assist
- Craft compelling narratives for various audiences through content creation, including writing and social media assist.
- First-hand editing and publication experience in corporate and social media channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X, YouTube, Tableau, Oracle, Adobe Content Management System and various in-house platforms.
- Assist internal and external campaigns and publish content.
- Measurement and Project Management
- Engage in measurement activities to evaluate communication effectiveness, creating monitoring reports and collecting feedback.
- Assist project management for communication initiatives, including administrative tasks and special projects.
- Professional Development and Collaboration
- Learn and perform core Corporate Communications business group tasks, such as writing news releases and compiling media distribution lists.
- Develop and execute project action plans, perform targeted research assignments into specific subject matters and assist monthly metrics reporting.
- Enhance your professional network by uniting with colleagues within and across departments. Participate in Union Pacific's Intern Connection Program for networking opportunities, expert sessions, facility tours, and local excursions, including an outing toThe College World Series and a visit to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo.
Qualifications - Required
Currently enrolled in a college degree program with earned credits equivalent to two years toward an undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or a closely related field. - Strong writing skills with proficiency in AP Style.
- Excellent verbal communication abilities.
- Capable of planning and managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Adept with social media platforms and corresponding analytics tools.
- Upholds the highest level of organization and creativity while maintaining professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated expertise utilizing MS Office suite, including Word, Excel and Power Point.
Qualifications - Preferred
Prior internship experience in corporate communications, showcasing effective business writing and editing skills. A strong preference is given to candidates with writer/editor experience for a university newspaper or within academic, nonprofit or for-profit organizations. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and video editing, preferably with Adobe Premiere, is considered a plus. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Design Tools, specifically Adobe Experience Manager. Photo editing experience with Adobe Lightroom or similar program.
