The Department of Political Science was founded in 1974 and currently has 38 ladder-rank and 11 adjunct faculty who represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds, methodologies, and approaches. A relatively young department, Political Science has skyrocketed to prominence among peer institutions in the United States. The most recent National Academy of Science study ranks UCSD among the top graduate programs in political science in the country. The doctoral program encompasses four broad sub-fields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory. Each year, the Department of Political Science supports nearly 100 scheduled undergraduate courses, 40 graduate courses, over 50 summer session courses, over 13,000 undergraduate course enrollments, and 1,500 undergraduate majors. The department receives an estimated 300 graduate program applications and attracts significant levels of extramural funding in support of research projects. Reporting to the Student Affairs Manager, the Student Affairs Advisor applies professional student services concepts and serves as a key resource for undergraduate students interested in attending law school by providing pre-law academic and career advising, coordinating pre-law initiatives, and enhancing the visibility of the Pathway to University of San Diego ("USD") Law Program. Incumbent is the lynchpin for a vital partnership between UCSD and USD. Coordinates with the USD Office of Admissions to support the growth, reach, and effectiveness of the Pathway to USD Law Program. Coordination with USD Admissions may include alignment of recruitment, training and programming priorities. Please submit a cover letter for a complete application. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $55,400 - $93,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $26.53 - $44.92 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
