This is a 40% limited appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to a career appointment based on the needs of the department.

DESCRIPTION

Provides instruction in non-credited recreational or sports activities to participants of all ages. Applies full knowledge and experience in recreational sports activities to create and adjust program methods and processes and provides safe instruction to participants. Instruct with sound principles, expert skills and styling in the area of selected activity. Evaluate students' progress, and adapt course progression appropriately.

Positions to be hired include: Yoga Instructor, FitLife Instructor, Fencing Instructor, CC Team Development Facilitator, CC Spec Events Team Dev Facilitator, Tennis Instructor, Pickleball Instructor, Martial Arts Instructor, Personal Trainer, CPR and Safety Instructor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures. Ability and willingness to adhere to Recreation Class activity dress code.

  • Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking, time management skills, and dynamic flexibility in adapting to the needs of clients. Good communication skills with individuals of all ages, and of varying backgrounds. Ability to speak before large and small groups with poise and enthusiasm.

  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.

  • Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.

  • Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.

  • Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/adherence by all class members.

  • Possession of current, valid certifications needed to teach activity specified (Instructor-certified for First Aid, CPR/AED, Lifeguard Training, WSI, SCUBA, etc. as appropriate).

  • Knowledge of physical education and kinesiology (as appropriate).

  • Prior experience teaching specified discipline.

  • Ability to teach specified discipline to a diverse group of individuals.

  • Ability to create programs geared to individual and group needs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check.

  • Must be able to attend classes that meet in the evenings after 5 pm or on weekends, and occasional daytime classes held either on- or off-campus facilities.
