Compensation and Benefits: $28.06-$30.89 per hour. Eligible for Mid-level Medical Benefits, Vacation, Sick, and Holiday pay.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM

DESCRIPTION

In consultation with the Director of Residence Life and in a manner reflective of the University's educational vision: 1) Discuss, develop and evaluate objectives and goals. 2) Develop and implement organizational policy and procedures related to RA job responsibilities. 3) Develop and implement residential policies to ensure a safe and secure living and learning community. 4) Develop, plan, coordinate and implement fall and in-service student staff training throughout the academic year. 5) Develop, plan, and coordinate student staff recruitment and selection including the training and coordination of the student staff selection committee.

Assist the Director of Residence Life in the day-to-day management of a residential community consisting of residence halls and apartment facilities through Interaction with Environmental, Health and Safety, Custodial Services, and Maintenance and Dining Services personnel. Interviews witnesses and writes up findings regarding alleged conduct violations. Provides guidance to lower level staff. Consults with higher level professionals as needed. Makes recommendations for sanctions. Maintain appropriate confidentiality and strict compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), independently manage and exercise good judgment in all aspects of College Residential Life student judicial system for residential, non-academic misconduct. Independently review conduct cases, interpret state and local laws, residential life and university policies, Student Conduct Code, and UCSD Principles of Community, and create necessary applications for compliance.

Adjudicate all cases which occurred in residential area of responsibility. Includes counseling and advising students about their responsibility to the Student Conduct Code, Housing Contract, Housing and Residential Life policies, and UC San Diego Principles of Community. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs which enhance and foster positive student development and leadership development consistent with the campus philosophy, UC San Diego's Principles of Community and current student needs. Design assessment tools, such as evaluations and surveys, to better understand the current needs of various resident populations including, but not limited to, new, continuing, disabled or under represented students.

Design activities and programs to address the diverse needs of the residential community throughout the academic year and during the summer months. Administer and develop, in conjunction with Associate Director of Upper Division Housing, student programming budget. Plan and implement educational programs focused on alcohol and drug awareness, cultural diversity, academic success and community service. Coordinate and advise campus wide student delegations to various regional and national student leadership conferences. Create communication opportunities utilizing online communities. Assist the Director of Residence Life in the day-to-day management of a residential community consisting of residence halls and apartment facilities through Interaction with Environmental, Health and Safety, Custodial Services, and Maintenance and Dining Services personnel. Serve on various campus-wide committees when requested. Receive cases of a highly confidential and sensitive nature, such as student suicide attempts, drug overdose, serious illness, and other matters. With tact and diplomacy, the person in this position may need to contact the student and monitor each case to ensure that the student receives the support, assistance, and guidance needed. Respond to student and community crises, e.g. suicide, suicide attempts, sexual assault, and other student crises in consultation with the Police Department, Fire Department, Paramedics, University Safety Officials, College Dean. Counseling and Psychological Services, Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services, Student Affairs Case Management, Office for Students with Disabilities, Campus Community Centers, CARE at SARC, college-specific Students of Concern team, Environmental Health and Safety, and other appropriate emergency services. Provide crisis intervention and counsel individuals and/or groups in areas such as personal, social, cultural, career, and academic issues. Make appropriate referrals to campus wide services. Provide conflict resolution and mediation. Provide ongoing follow up with students of concern living in residential area. Train RA and student staff to appropriately address residential facility, safety and security issues.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

  • Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.

  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.

  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.

  • Skilled to manage a broad range of student services within the residential life community and knowledgeable of university services and resources.

  • Ability to apply professional approaches to solve problems and organize programs and projects

  • This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,300 - $103,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $49.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
