About this opportunity:

The Department of Special Education welcomes applications for part-time adjunct instructor positions available January 2026.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U. S. without employer sponsorship.

Instructors are needed to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in American Sign Language (ASL). Both on campus and online courses are available.

Please note that applications will remain active for one year from the posting date. Therefore, if you apply for this position, you may not receive a response from the Department of Special Education until there is a need to hire an instructor to teach a specific course.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct instructors will teach courses related to ASL and/or Deaf Studies. Both on-campus and online instructors will be responsible for teaching, grading, providing quality feedback on assignments, responding to students in a timely manner, and hosting weekly office hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Adjuncts teaching undergraduate courses in ASL, the minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

  • Adjuncts teaching graduate level courses must have a doctoral degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution or meet the tested experience policy.

  • Native to near-native fluency in ASL.

Preferred Qualifications:

For adjuncts teaching courses in ASL, the preferred qualifications are:

  • Ph.D. in American Sign Language.

  • 2 years of teaching ASL in a post-secondary setting.

  • Experience teaching ASL online and in-person.
