Summary: Scotty's Contracting and Stone is seeking an experienced and driven Heavy Civil Construction Manager to oversee field operations for our heavy civil and highway construction projects in the Tennessee region. This role is focused on managing day-to-day construction activities in the field, ensuring crews, equipment, and subcontractors are operating safely, productively, and in alignment with project plans. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in heavy civil construction, excellent leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive field performance while meeting schedule, budget, and quality goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee daily field operations for heavy civil and highway projects.
- Coordinate crews, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to ensure safe and efficient jobsite execution.
- Monitor field productivity, quality, and adherence to project schedules.
- Enforce safety standards, environmental compliance, and company policies across all job sites.
- Conduct regular site inspections and resolve field issues or conflicts quickly.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and superintendents to align field activities with project goals.
- Support planning and scheduling efforts with practical input from field conditions.
- Review and approve field documentation including timecards, daily reports, and equipment logs.
- Serve as the primary field contact for clients, DOT representatives, and inspectors.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and accountability for field teams across multiple projects in the Western Kentucky region.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
- Minimum of 3+ years of field management experience in heavy civil or highway construction.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operations (dozers, graders, excavators, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to manage crews, subcontractors, and field resources effectively.
- Solid understanding of DOT regulations, roadway specifications, and safety requirements.
- Proficiency in construction management tools (Procore, P6, HCSS) preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on, team-oriented management style.
- Ability to travel to multiple project sites and manage fast-paced, high-volume operations.
