Overview
Hudson Valley Credit Union is currently recruiting for the position of Community Development Mortgage Loan Originator. Primary Function: plays a vital role in expanding access to affordable housing, particularly in underserved communities. This position is responsible for originating mortgage loans that align with the financial needs of Credit Union members and potential members, while also advancing the Credit Union's commitment to equitable lending. In addition to standard loan origination duties, the role focuses on Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and multicultural lending initiatives, working closely with local housing organizations, nonprofits, and community stakeholders to promote sustainable homeownership. The individual in this role actively builds relationships through community outreach, realtor partnerships, and educational efforts, and is expected to meet or exceed goals related to member service, loan quality, and production.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong external relationships with referral sources including realtors, builders, housing organizations, nonprofits, and other community-based groups. Utilize outreach techniques such as cold-calling, letter writing, group presentations, and attendance at community functions to build rapport and promote affordable housing initiatives.
- Provide exceptional service by responding to inquiries and leads from all sources in alignment with HVFCU's service standards. Manage a flexible schedule to accommodate member meetings, networking events, and community outreach activities.
- Recommend mortgage loan products that best serve members' financial needs, clearly explaining the risks, benefits, and variables of each option. Promote financial literacy and sustainable homeownership through education and personalized guidance.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of HVCU's mortgage products and services. Attend required training sessions and stay current on regulatory guidelines, including CRA and multicultural lending practices.
- Collect and analyze financial information to assess loan eligibility, including income, assets, debts, credit history, and property characteristics. Follow up with members to obtain necessary documentation and support processing and underwriting teams to ensure quality loan decisions.
- Identify opportunities to refer members to other Credit Union services such as HVCU Financial Services, Insurance Agency of the Hudson Valley, Business Services, and branch offerings based on member needs.
- Participate in all required training, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance. Actively pursue professional development and contribute to the improvement of departmental procedures.
- Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Participate in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrate attained knowledge. Participate on Credit Union teams, projects and strategic initiatives when the opportunity arises. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

- Responsible for regular and predictable attendance including punctuality.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or at least 2 years equivalent experience for each undergraduate year not completed; undergraduate degree cannot substitute for minimum number of years of experience required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) required
- Valid driver's license required
- Minimum 3 Years experience in community-focused mortgage lending preferred.
