Job Summary

The Total Rewards Manager leads the design, implementation, and administration of the organization's compensation, benefits and career management programs. This role is responsible for developing a comprehensive total rewards strategy that aligns with business objectives and supports the attraction, retention, and engagement of top talent. The manager oversees both compensation and benefits functions, ensuring compliance, competitiveness, and effective communication of programs to employees. The manager works closely and collaboratively with HR business partners, managers and leaders. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.

Core Responsibilities Required to be Successful as a Total Rewards Manager

Total Rewards Strategy & Leadership



  • Head the compensation and benefits team, providing strategic direction and day-to-day oversight.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive total rewards philosophy and approach that supports organizational goals.
  • Establish and manage an ongoing communication plan to educate employees on total rewards offerings across health, wealth and career.


Compensation Management



  • Manage the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive plans, and executive compensation.
  • Direct job analysis, job evaluation, and market pricing to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Establish job, pay and career architecture, plans and policies that support talent acquisition and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws and regulations.


Benefits Administration



  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and administration of employee benefits programs (e.g., health, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, wellness).
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure effective delivery of benefits services.
  • Monitor benefit trends and recommend enhancements to improve employee satisfaction and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA).


Data Analysis & Reporting



  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing compensation and benefits programs and recommend improvements.
  • Analyze compensation and benefits data to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on total rewards metrics and program performance.


Collaboration & Communication



  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Lead employee education initiatives to promote understanding and utilization of total rewards programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for managers and employees regarding compensation, benefits and career management.


Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., CCP, CBP, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of compensation structures, benefits administration, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and compensation/benefits tools.
