What to Expect
The Tesla Robotics Team designs and builds humanoid bi-pedal robots (Optimus) to perform tasks that are boring, repetitive, and dangerous for humans. The team joins mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team. We are seeking talented Mechanical Design Engineers to play a role in building this ambitious vision into reality. There will be an emphasis on creative problem-solving abilities and technical rigor for this role.
What You'll Do
- Lead mechanical system integration across the full robot, performing compatibility checks throughout development process and tracking impacts from design changes
- Support requirement definition including functionality, manufacturing, and cosmetics; continuously evaluating impacts of design changes
- Support and execute virtual builds, development bucks, physical prototypes, and pre-series production validation
- Manage top-level product BOM and kinematic models, ensuring CAD completeness and compatibility
- Create and maintain URDF models to translate CAD into accurate virtual representation for simulation and software control; verify accuracy against real hardware
- Perform 3D dimensional analysis to predict and control the effects of manufacturing variation on precision and kinematics of bot
- Lead the mechanical design for motion tracking hardware
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- Must have experience in full product lifecycle from concept through production; experience with product lifecycle management tools is an advantage
- Knowledgeable in varied part manufacturing processes such as stampings, large castings/moldings, precision machining, electronics
- Proven execution, problem solving, and strong communication skills
- Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software (CATIA/3DX software preferred)
- Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting GD&T stack-up analysis (3DCS software preferred)

Expected Compensation
$92,720 - $360,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
