Job Description:
- The department is looking for 3 to 4 individuals to provide janitorial services at the Juvenile Correctional Center.
- The staff would specifically handle cleaning services for the school buildings and areas (a total of 5 buildings/areas).
- The Yvonne B. Miller High School & Post-Secondary Programs at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center is looking for Housekeepers (Education) for the Division of Education.
- Cleaning equipment, supplies, and chemicals/ cleaning solutions.
Role & Responsibilities:
- This role involves assisting with general cleaning and sanitizing tasks to support the education team's instructional and work areas at BAJCC. Responsibilities to include:
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize school areas, including classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and gyms, by wiping, sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, polishing, and disinfecting.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms daily and as needed.
- Focus on high-touch and high-traffic areas, such as floors, student desks, tables, glass, and steel surfaces, for daily cleaning.
- Dust and clean windowsills weekly.
- Prepare classrooms, workspaces, and event areas by performing initial cleaning and handling any necessary post-event cleanup.
- Remove trash and debris from classrooms, offices, and school grounds, and dispose of empty boxes and packaging in the dumpster.
- Keep track of cleaning supplies and equipment inventory.
- Be physically capable of standing, walking, pushing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and performing repetitive movements, including overhead and forward-reaching tasks, and walking short and long distances in varying temperatures and weather conditions to travel between school buildings.
- Experience with janitorial equipment, including floor cleaning machines, is preferred.
- Follow instructions to complete tasks and projects effectively, and demonstrate skills in basic math, bookkeeping, telephone etiquette, and clear written and verbal communication.
- The Education Janitor will be evaluated by the Project Manager, including leave requests.
- The Education Janitor will follow onsite directives from the Education Support Specialist and from the Education Leadership Team to include the Principal, Assistant Principals, Division of Education Programmatic Directors, and the School Superintendent.
Required Skills:
- Ability to meet DHRM physical, environmental, and cognitive demands, including but not limited to:
- Considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials, and sanitation standards for a public facility.
- Knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment.
- Working skills in the operation of power cleaning equipment, such as buffers and vacuum cleaners.
- Ability to complete tasks accurately using checklists
- Essential light lifting, pushing/pulling (up to 20 lbs.), moderate pushing and pulling, lifting items (20-50 lbs.), walking short and long distances, climbing, using repetitive motions, reaching above head and below waist, and carrying moderate items with or without equipment.
- Must be capable of managing multiple priorities in a high-security environment with frequent changes and various stimuli.
- Requires considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, proper use of chemicals and solutions, and adherence to OSHA regulations and standards for general industry.
- Experience with industrial-grade janitorial supplies and equipment is essential.
- Must have a valid driver's license is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Prior housekeeping experience, preferably in a large multi-building environment.

- This part-time, wage position does not include benefits such as medical, dental, vision, FSA, HRA, HSA, life insurance, pension plans, disability coverage, or employee assistance programs.
- This position is also ineligible for paid time off, vacation leave, or paid state holidays.
- Work will not occur on weekends and holidays unless specified by the Project Manager, and this off time will be unpaid by DJJ.
- Expected unpaid time off includes weekends, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, George Washington Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
