Purpose
This entry-level position is responsible for conducting routine Quality Assurance (QA) testing and inspections to determine specification compliance of ReadyMix concrete and aggregate based products. This position can be responsible for either ReadyMix or aggregate plant technician duties.
Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
- Perform quality control tests on concrete products including but not limited to, field testing (ACI Field Level 1 Testing) and plant aggregates.
- Identify jobs that need QC presence and perform tests accordingly
- Transport test cylinders to the lab, log, strip, mark and store cylinders
- Observe and record on-site sampling and test abnormalities and record in proper documentation.
- Be able to troubleshoot jobsite issues.
- Organizes testing results and prepares reporting information from test results for appropriate Company personnel.
- Obtains samples from job sites and production facilities.
- Maintains regular communications with plant personnel and/or supervisor to report material acceptability and test results.
- Keep all field-testing equipment to Company standards.
- Testing equipment must be kept clean and in working order
- Calibration of field-testing equipment must be performed at scheduled intervals
- Maintain daily field reports and a weekly log of job sites visited.
- Will be tasked trained for operation of powered equipment as needed, this includes time for training.
- Communicates with inspectors regarding testing and results.
- Help Lab Supervisor with mix design research and development.
- Organizes and cleans the QA lab.
- Monitors and assists the work of summer interns.
- Promotes a Zero Injury culture through personal adherence to all company safety policies and practices.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or other management employees.
Role Qualifications, Requirements, & Competencies
Education:
- A High School diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A minimum of 1 to two (2) years of work experience. Experience need not be industry related.
- Varied shifts: Must be willing to work various day, evening and overnight shifts.
- Mathematical aptitude and ability to learn computer aided test data analysis programs.
- Must possess basic computer software skills including Word, Excel and Outlook. Must be willing to learn and become proficient in aggregate testing and related technology.
- Must possess mechanical ability to maintain and repair plant equipment related to QA testing and processing.
- Must be able to exercise judgment where appropriate and within established guidelines.
- Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
- Must demonstrate an ability to work on a team and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of customers, staff and management.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to speak and understand English to a proficient and understandable level.
- Must possess a valid California Driver License and must maintain an acceptable driving record.
- A successful candidate will obtain ACI Field Testing Technician Level 1 within six months of employment and recertify upon expiration.
- A successful candidate will obtain ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 within six months of employment and recertify upon expiration.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Physical: Employees occasionally may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: Viewing of computer monitor. Keyboarding; use of fingers to make small movements such as typing and mouse usage. Driving to job sites, other offices or meeting sites. Position may require lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Special projects (such as gathering aggregate samples) may require lifting up to 80 lbs. May require walking on uneven ground, climbing, reaching, bending, standing or stooping. Use of general tools for maintenance and repair of equipment. May be required to work outdoors for long periods of time and at varied shift levels from day to swing to night. Use of general tools for maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Work Environment: Plant locations may contain dust, fumes, debris, medium to loud levels of noise and extreme weather conditions including excessive heat or cold and rain prevalent at times. Works with and handles hot material samples. Travel may be required to other locations, site facilities or educational seminars. Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Lab testing environment may contain dust and medium to loud levels of noise with variations in temperature. Some locations may require climbing ladders and working at elevated heights. Proper PPE must always be worn.
