  • Manage activities and personnel related to concrete laboratory testing with consideration of financial performance.
  • Promote safety and safety culture and ensure proper PPE is used. Assist with company required safety training.
  • Oversee and coordinate the schedules and work of concrete laboratory technicians.
  • Oversee concrete laboratory tests, interpretation of test data, and preparing reports and/or summaries of test data. Perform calculations and data reduction of test results.
  • Work with recruiting team to maintain appropriate staff levels with collaboration and approval by your supervisor.
  • Provide assistance to Project Managers, the Department Manager, and assist with administrative duties as needed.
  • Maintain and calibrate concrete laboratory equipment. Manage calibration schedules and records.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory and organization of required supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in business development, marketing, and client development.
  • Comply with corporate-level and office-specific Quality Management Systems (QMS) related policies and procedures; including adoption, implementation and enforcement.
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate concrete lab-testing related certifications by external certifying agencies for the defined scope; and also ensuring Concrete Lab Technicians obtain the same.
  • Obtain and maintain accreditation by an appropriate accrediting agencies in accordance with Corporate's Lab Accreditation Policy (such as by AASHTO resource, CMEC, A2LA, or equivalent), including participation and performance of required Proficiency Same Testing.
  • Occasionally perform technician job duties.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience
  • High school diploms or GED required. Associate or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Strong oral & written communication skills
  • Advanced ability to perform concrete laboratory tests on construction materials and a strong ability to evaluate the test results in terms of specification compliance.
  • Expert knowledge of test methods, ASTM standards, and laboratory equipment
  • Basic certifications per tech cert policy and any advanced certifications (or PE, PG, NICET Level IV) necessary for the work performed
    • If managing both the soils and concrete labs, certifications are required for both laboratories.
  • Advanced ability to interpret data and properly record collected information
  • Expert knowledge of concrete laboratory accreditation requirements and QMS implementation
  • Strong leadership and decision making skills
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, peers and supervisors as well as independently. Ability to build a team
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 60-80 pounds
  • Knowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plus
  • Valid driver's license if driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary
