About the Role
The Senior Accountant role applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles by performing specific duties detailed below.
What you'll do:
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in a timely and efficient manner.
- Create and post journal transactions to the general ledger ensuring proper accounting.
- Analyzes financial information, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial positions.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for various accounts. Identify and research reconciling items to analyze, document and resolve them on a timely basis.
- Ensures that balance sheet account reconciliations are thorough and completed timely each month or quarter, as appropriate.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information and uses this information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
- Assists with the preparation of ML's annual financial plan and forecasts as required.
- Assists with internal and external audits ensuring all schedules, requests and aspects of the audits are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Assists with the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers and operating expenses.
- Assist with intercompany analysis and settlements.
- Completes quarterly packages and other requests from the MNC tax department.
- Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Respond in a timely manner to the information needs of management as requested.
- Performs other accounting functions and projects as necessary, requested, or assigned.

You have these skills:
- Demonstrates strong technical accounting skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team in a fast moving environment
- Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and analysis
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Excel

And these qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of five (5) or more years of related accounting work experience and/or training.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and all MS Office programs, including Excel and Word.
- Person must exhibit the highest level of integrity at all times.
- Ability to type and perform 10-key commands.
- Desire to learn and understand the transportation business.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player, as well as independently.
- Must consistently demonstrate professional and pleasant behavior and effectively communicate in stressful situations and/or environments.

Extra credit if you have:
- CPA or public accounting background.
- Transportation industry work experience.

The annual salary range is posted for this position in Illinois. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
