Summary:

Goldbelt Professional Services, LLC is seeking a responsible and professional Bioinformatician with wastewater science experience to focus on managing data flows and enhancing the data infrastructure and management of the National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) genomics data as well as diverse data science needs. This role is instrumental in developing and maintaining a robust, scalable, and efficient infrastructure to manage significant volumes of wastewater sequencing data. The work entails refining data processing and quality assurance processes, enhancing data infrastructure, optimizing analysis performance, and analyzing data to provide actionable public health insights.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines to handle large datasets of wastewater information.
  • Develop SOPs for better data processes.
  • Implement and validate new features on the Foundry platform (DCIPHER), optimizing data ingestion, processing, and quality assurance.
  • Work on AMD bioinformatics platform and assist with potential transition of bioinformatics pipeline to this platform.
  • Assist with validation and piloting of bioinformatics tools.
  • Collaborate with the core NWSS team and external contracting teams to ensure that data systems can scale and adapt to evolving public health needs.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of data processing pipelines, ensuring system reliability and resource scalability.
  • Assist with data management needs, including data permissioning and sharing with internal agency groups and externally.
  • Design dashboards and other tools to communicate data to the public, DCIPHER users, and CDC leadership.
  • Develop algorithms for efficient data analysis and visualization, integrating these tools into the platform to support collaborative public health efforts.
  • Answer jurisdiction technical questions and provide support.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong Python programming skills with proficiency in data handling and analysis.
  • Palantir Foundry experience is desired but not necessary.
  • Familiarity with database design principles and the ability to create scalable database solutions.
  • Data visualization skills using Python or R (ggplot2) to communicate insights effectively.
  • Version control systems experience, particularly with Git, for effective code management and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least seven (3) years of experience in relevant work or related areas.
  • Experience designing and implementing robust data pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Public Health or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with PySpark preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Previous experience with federal government agencies; preferably with CDC.
  • Experience with distributed systems and parallel computing desired.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000 annually.
