Summary: The Benefits and Compensation Manager will execute leadership vision of the design, implementation, and administration of compensation and benefits programs across a multi-entity organization. This role is responsible for developing competitive and compliant total rewards strategies that align with business goals You will serve as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to HR and leadership teams across the organization.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as the subject matter expert in the area of compensation and benefits.
- Develop specifications for new plans or modify existing plans to:
- Maintain company's competitive position in labor market, and
- Obtain uniform benefits package for all company locations, where possible.
- Analyze employee utilization of current benefits and develop specific recommendations to the leadership team
- Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information
- Develop benefits information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers and management
- Direct open enrollment open enrollment implementation, including informational and/or help sessions with employees. Create annual benefits summaries for employees
- Serve as the primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
- Manage the company-wide COBRA system and billing to ensure proper allocation of funds to subsidiaries and timely payment to vendors
- Assure company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act. Supervise preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies
- Ensure all programs, policies, and procedures comply with current legislation, including but not limited to ADA, FMLA, ERISA, Equal Pay Act, FLSA, etc.
- Lead the annual merit and performance review process and support the HR Department with communications
- Develop and implement compensation programs, policies, and procedures, and make recommendations regarding salary structure, base/variable pay and partner with the business on incentive compensation
- Provide expertise and support on various compensation and benefits projects, such as company-wide initiatives and new programs
- Collaborate with the HR team and business leaders to design and implement compensation and benefits programs that support the company's overall strategy and goals
- Partner with the HR Department to help communicate policies and procedure changes to managers and employees
- Train HR staff on benefit processes and provide guidance and resources.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and compensation
- Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations that govern employee benefit plans and program administration
- Knowledge of principles and practices of employee benefits and health insurance under various product designs and funding arrangements including, but not limited to indemnity, preferred provider organizations, point-of-service, exclusive provider organizations, high deductible plans, health savings accounts, and health maintenance organizations
- Knowledge of claims processing, payment functions, and requirements for providing HIPAA compliant file transfers
- Knowledge of HRIS, ERP, ATS, Electronic Timekeeping various other HR related systems
- Experience with salary survey participation including data audits, validation, and benchmarking
- Experience managing benefits and compensation in a Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees
- High degree of analytical capability and ability to present complex information in a streamlined and easy to understand format, considering all possible options
- Ability to delegate tasks and duties in order to deliver effective results
- Ability to get along with a diverse population
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (emphasis in Excel and data base technology report development and analysis). Metric development and interpretation, i.e., regression studies, ratios, and correlation
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Possesses attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and with outside agencies, partners, shareholders, and business associates
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to adapt messages and strategies for diverse audiences
- Basic understanding of relevant software, tools, and systems used in the corporate environment. This includes a proficiency in standard software applications, including Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- Minimum seven (7) or more years of progressive benefits, compensation and/or human resource experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters' degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- Ten (10) or more years related HR, Benefit Administration
- Professional Certification such as Employee Benefits Professional or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist
- Compensation certification is a plus
- Experience in a multi-unit, multi-state environment.
- Previous experience working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs)
- Previous government contracting experience
Pay and Benefits The salary range for this position is $129,500 - $150,000 annually. At Goldbelt, we value and reward our team's dedication and hard work.
