TITLE

Leadership Development Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

The Leadership Development Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the university-wide leadership development program and supporting initiatives that build leadership capacity across the organization. This includes assessing leadership development needs, designing and facilitating leadership learning experiences, supporting succession planning and talent pipelines, and providing consultation to stakeholders. The role also involves collaborating with the Manager of Employee Development and Communications to align leadership programs with university strategic goals, coordinating events and initiatives, and providing administrative and logistical support for leadership and employee development activities. Work is performed under general supervision, and performance is evaluated based on the effectiveness of programs, leadership outcomes, and contribution to organizational development objectives, in accordance with University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Manager of Employee Development and Communications

Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct leadership needs assessments and stay informed on trends and best practices.

  • Design, develop, and implement leadership curricula and learning experiences.

  • Coordinate external speakers, partnerships, and resources to enhance programming.

  • Facilitate leadership development sessions and workshops as needed.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness using participation, internal promotions, and recognition for leadership contributions to recommend improvements.

  • Oversee communications and administrative activities to ensure program engagement and smooth operations.

  • Collaborates and receives guidance from the Manager of Employee Development and Communications on leadership development/employee learning strategy to support university mission and strategic goals.

  • Consult broadly to identify leadership skill gaps and development opportunities.

  • Collaborate with HR to identify high-potential employees and emerging leaders.

  • Develop resources that support career growth and leadership readiness.

  • Design and facilitate instructor-led training on leadership topics.

  • Adapt or source content, including external facilitators, to meet organizational needs.

  • Provide event and program support for leadership-related initiatives.

  • Deliver training and consultation to advance leadership goals.

  • Partner with stakeholders across the university to strengthen leadership programming.

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for leadership development and related programs.

  • Manage learning systems, track participant progress, and produce reports.

  • Support recognition initiatives that honor employee contributions and leadership potential.

  • Develop and maintain learning resources and guides to ensure relevance and accessibility.

  • Stay current on leadership development research and practices.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Leadership Studies, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

1-3 years of experience in training, program design and administration, or leadership development. Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating leadership or professional development programs. Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders to identify development needs and implement programs.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

  • Ability to assess organizational and leadership development needs and design targeted interventions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, stakeholders, and external partners.

  • Ability to provide guidance, consultation, and facilitation to support leadership initiatives.

  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information to develop solutions and achieve desired outcomes.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including delivering training and presentations.

  • Ability to evaluate program effectiveness using participation, internal promotions, recognition, and other leadership outcomes.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently while meeting deadlines.

  • Tact, discretion, professionalism, and outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with diverse populations.

  • Ability to use office technology and learning platforms, including LMS and productivity software.

  • Adaptability to changing organizational needs and emerging leadership trends.

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in leadership and organizational development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.
