Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Woodyard Operations Leader for our Leaf River Cellulose mill in New Augusta, MS. This position will report directly to the Operations Leader. The role provides technical expertise, leadership, and proactive management of operations, reliability, and safety risks.

Our Team

Leaf River Cellulose Mill is a world-class wood pulp mill in Georgia-Pacific's Cellulose business. Leaf River produces specialty and market fluff pulp that is delivered worldwide to customers for a variety of high-end uses and converting technologies. Our products are used in applications ranging from paper products to diapers and hygiene products, to specialty applications including textiles, pharmaceuticals, food, paints, and plastic molding components.

What You Will Do

  • Provide leadership for the department to strive for excellence in safety and environmental compliance.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership in EHS, compliance, asset reliability, cost optimization, quality capability, productivity, waste reduction, and strategic capital planning and execution.
  • Apply MBM principles as a supervisor.
  • Manage fiber and solid fuel inventories with effective communication across Wood Procurement, Pulp Mill, and Utilities.
  • Provide daily support and technical expertise to area operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Optimize the daily production plan to match equipment capability and reduce wood cost.
  • Continuously evaluate constraints, eliminate bottlenecks, and lead improvement plans to enhance capability and yield.
  • Identify and eliminate waste and non-value-added costs in both direct and indirect areas.
  • Collaborate with Area Maintenance and Reliability Leaders using root cause analysis tools to resolve reliability and operational issues.
  • Coordinate operating plans and outages to maximize value creation.
  • Facilitate ownership-based work system strategies by building technician capability to operate, maintain, and improve assets.
  • Provide guidance and direction to woodyard team members, setting and monitoring performance standards for continuous improvement.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Operations experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Proven experience delivering high levels of performance in a heavy industrial environment
  • Proven ability to collaborate within and across teams to deliver positive results
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend duty.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering.
  • 3+ years of management/supervisory experience.
  • 3+ years of Wood Yard or solids handling experience.
  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing outages.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Project, CMMS, and PARCView.
  • Experience developing and implementing improvement processes and projects to improve wood yield and reduce wood costs.
