About the Job

The CIDRAP Podcast Assistant Producer will create / edit impactful, science-based audio content that informs and engages the public on infectious disease and public health. This role is central to producing the Osterholm Update podcast and related multimedia, combining research and storytelling to reach audiences from healthcare professionals to the general public.

The ideal candidate is passionate about public health, a sharp editorial eye, and hands-on production expertise.
This is a 14 hour or less per week position, with work primarily in the afternoons and evenings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Podcast audio production
* Collaborate with podcast hosts, producers, and researchers to develop accurate and timely podcast episodes on various infectious disease topics.
* Edit bi-weekly episodes with quick turnaround time, typically requiring evening availability on Tuesday and Wednesday, every other week (hours during the course of a production week to be flexed accordingly to maintain appropriate workload).

Podcast research and technical support
* Write content for non-technical segments per biweekly podcast episode
* Edit and post an automatically-transcribed version of each podcast episode
* Convert podcast episodes to multimedia files for sharing on social platforms (e.g., YouTube)
* Attend regularly scheduled podcasts meetings, typically held in the afternoon

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in communications, public health, biology, social sciences, or other field with educational experience aligning with job duties and responsibilities.
* Proven experience producing podcasts and mixing audio content.
* Background in journalism, science communication, or public health media.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to adapt to last-minute changes during scheduled work hours.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications
* Direct experience with Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, and Drupal platforms.
* Experience developing content for multiple social media platforms.

About the Department

The mission of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), which is part of the Research and Innovation Office (RIO), is to prevent illness and death from targeted infectious disease threats through research and the translation of scientific information into real-world, practical applications, policies, and solutions. CIDRAP addresses a variety of international and national public health policy issues related to the prevention and control of infectious diseases through various projects, including vaccine-related issues; emerging infectious disease threats; development of R&D roadmaps for coronavirus, influenza, Ebola/Marburg, Nipah, Lassa, and Zika virus vaccines; antimicrobial resistance and stewardship; chronic wasting disease; and bioterrorism/pandemic/emergency preparedness. CIDRAP has a strong Web and communication presence through the CIDRAP website, CIDRAP daily newsletters, podcasts, and webinars. National and international experts alike turn to CIDRAP for the latest information on COVID-19, influenza, and other crucial emerging infectious diseases.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $32 - $45 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
