Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery discipline functions within the Adams School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals and specializes in implant surgery, jaw tumors and disease, trauma surgery, cleft palates, facial cosmetic surgery and much more.
Position Summary
This is Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe position will work in the UNC Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinics. This position will be responsible for working along side a provider in a faculty practice as an effort to reduce documentation time and increase time spent on patient contact. A Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe position is present during a provider's performance of clinical services and is responsible for documenting activities performed by the provider in the medical record during the course of the service. Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe are motivated individuals trained in medical documentation to assist providers with efficiency. The Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe will accompany one provider per shift to complete their charts and help department flow.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Potential employees must type at a speed no less than 60 words a minute.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
College-level introductory biology, chemistry, anatomy, or comparable course is preferred. Current procedural terminology coding certification and current dental terminology knowledge and experience working as a medical transcriptionist in a dental or medical environment is preferred.
