Position description

Research specialist position opportunity - MICADAS operator and lab support

The Terra-MICADAS lab associated with the W. M. Keck Carbon Cycle Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (KCCAMS) facility at the University of California, Irvine is searching for a team member to operate the MIni CArbon DAting System (MICADAS) and its periphery.

We seek a team member interested in longer-term employment. Primary responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the MICADAS the multiple devices that facilitate the direct injection of CO2 to the spectrometer and the automated production of graphite targets. Other duties involve

physical and chemical sample preparation, data analysis, taking an active role in laboratory safety, and communicating with and training of facility users, including students and researchers. The successful candidate is expected to devote approximately 80% of their time to the operation of the MICADAS and associated laboratory, and the remainder to focus on data quality and improving methods.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position will be initially for one-year, renewable dependent on applicant personal contributions to the project. Review of applicants will begin in October 2025 and remain open until filled.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates are expected to have a STEM college degree and background in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) physics or chemistry with a proven disposition toward experimental techniques and applications.
