Job Summary

The Procurement and Technician Specialist coordinates pharmacy ordering and receiving in accordance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and Unites States Pharmacopeia (USP) compliance.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Thoroughly understands USP 800 guidelines for hazardous drug management (e.g., receiving processing, and storage).
  • Creates daily ordering by processing through our 340B program and sending it to the wholesaler, as needed.
  • Direct company ordering of medications and supplies.
  • Receives, unpacks, and inventories order (e.g., medications, compounding supplies, office supplies).
  • Sorts/files completed purchase orders/invoices.
  • Proficient in directing, overseeing, and evaluating the quantity and quality of support staff duties.
  • Monitors medication inventory to ensure appropriate medication expiration dates.
  • Available for annual inventory duties.
  • Operates and can troubleshoot issues with automated technology (e.g., automated dispensing cabinets, carousel, compounders, packagers, printers) in accordance with departmental standards and expectations.
  • Able to assist with emergency after-hour orders.
  • Monitors and tracks value of medications recovered for billing and reporting purposes.
  • Teaches NDCs and CIN into the carousel, automated dispensing cabinets, electronic medical record, packager, and all other technological equipment as directed.
  • Completes weekly/monthly borrowed logs and billing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies

Registration - Within 30 days of hire Technician Registration - South Dakota Board of Pharmacy
Certification - Within 12 months of hireCertified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) -Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - National Healthcare Association (NHA)

Certification - Within 36 months of hireTechnician Product Verification (Tech-Check-Tech) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Preferred:
Experience - 1+ years of Pharmaceutical Experience

Physical Requirements: Medium work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently (34-66% of the time), and or up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
