Position Overview

The intern will work on a variety of different tasks for BSDE related to code maintainability, exploring latest data engineering tools and workflows, and visualizations. Under the direction of senior staff, the intern may develop new program tools, data visualizations, web applications, reports and datasets as determined by the needs of the group.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the Senior Engineer in the areas of reporting development lifecycle, including but not limited to understand business reporting needs, solution design, logical design, translation to physical design, Extract, Transform & Load ("ETL"), report code development, and testing.

  • Provide technical support with the guidance of the Senior Engineer in the areas of development, deployment, and support of data management solutions.

  • Under direction from the Senior Engineer, work on a variety of project areas, including data visualizations, web development activities, SQL query optimization, program optimization.

  • Provide required technical support including but not limited to:

    • Creating dataset for ad hoc request from customers,

    • Troubleshooting reports and web tools to determine issues and suggest course of action,

    • Ensure that ServiceNow tickets are completed within a specified timeline and according to service level agreements.

  • May perform other duties, as needed, to assist the BSDE Team and other partners outside our team.

  • Must be a quick learner with a strong sense of curiosity

  • Must be self-motivated

  • Be able to incorporate feedback

  • Must be comfortable working with deadlines.

Scheduling requirements:

  • Ability to work designated schedule.

  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends(, as needed).

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 95% of a typical working day.

  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.

  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.

  • Ability to work seated for approximately 95% of a typical working day.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in field of Life Sciences.

  • Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
