Position Overview

The Intern - Protein Research will assist in the development of protein detection methodologies, biomarker discovery and validation, and the evaluation of new technologies within the Advanced Research and Technology Development group. This role will work closely with a senior team member to execute bench experiments and analysis of data. This role intended to be a full-time opportunity for an engineering or science undergraduate to obtain hands-on laboratory experience in an industry leading research group while contributing to the overall company goals.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with basic laboratory experiments and general duties.
  • Assist with protein detection methods, including immunoassay design and development.
  • Assist with nucleic acid extraction methods.
  • Assist with nucleic acid amplification and detection methods, including but not limited to qPCR and NGS.
  • Display understanding of basic data statistical analysis.
  • Display strong applications of literature research and innovative idea application to a laboratory setting.
  • Display excellent communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment towards Bachelor's degree in the field of Life Sciences.
  • Preference given to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
  • Basic computer skills to include internet navigation and email usage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research and laboratory work with an emphasis on protein-related research.
  • Prior wet lab research experience.
