Position description

Retina Clinician-Scientist

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a Retina Clinician-Scientist to fill a full-time faculty position who will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Level.

In addition to research, the candidate will provide retina clinical services at one or more of our multiple Bay Area clinical sites, and participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education.

Requirements:

The successful candidate is required to develop or advance an internationally recognized, independent and extramurally funded research program in the basic, translational, or clinical sciences relevant to vitreoretinal disease. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree and have a CA medical license or be eligible for full, unrestricted licensure, and have completed fellowship training in medical or surgical retina. Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire. Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. Demonstrated teaching competency as well as demonstrated success in clinical, translational, or laboratory research are essential. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2025-26/policy-covered-october-2025-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is$140,600 - $369,000. The total negotiated salary for this position will include another component at the time of hire. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
