Position description

Retina Clinician

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a retina clinician with expertise in care of pediatric patients to fill a full-time faculty position who will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Level.

The individual will join the Retina Ophthalmology Division and be responsible primarily for patient care, including pediatric patients, at the Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision, the Benioff Children's Hospital in the West Bay and Oakland, and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. In addition to research, the candidate will provide retina clinical services at one or more of our multiple Bay Area clinical sites, and participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education.

Requirements:

Advanced training, expertise, or willingness to manage pediatric patients is required. The ophthalmologist will serve as a clinician educator for residents and fellows with an emphasis on retina medical and surgical instruction. Experience and comfort screening and treating patients with retinopathy of prematurity is required. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree and have a CA medical license or be eligible for full, unrestricted licensure, and have completed fellowship training in medical or surgical retina. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2025-26/policy-covered-october-2025-scales/t5-summary.pdf. The minimum base salary range for this position is $140,600 - $369,000. The total negotiated salary for this position will include another component at the time of hire. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
