Are you a creative communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? Do you love storytelling, design, and strategy? The communications team at the Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Texas at Austin is looking for a graphic designer to help shape the voice and vision of student life at UT Austin.

  • The Office of the Dean of Students is the hub for student involvement and support at UT Austin. Our mission is to create a transformative campus experience where students grow as leaders, thinkers, and engaged citizens.
  • The Communications Team functions as an in-house "creative agency" for more than a dozen student-centered programming units-from legal services to student government, and sorority and fraternity life to volunteerism and service-learning programs. We lead branding efforts, craft digital and print content, and support events that make a difference in students' lives.
  • You'll join: A team of five full-time staff members plus a talented group of student creatives specializing in photography, social media, and design.

Purpose

To create images and graphics to be used on digital and print collateral for more than one dozen unique programming areas within the Office of the Dean of Students.

Responsibilities
  • Executes large-scale projects, ensuring that final deliverables are consistent and cohesive. Assists in formatting and layout for reports, presentations and other communication documents.
  • Works within an established visual identity, ensuring all work maintains department and University branding. Provides suggestions and feedback to refine our current standards to fit with the Office of the Dean of Students' mission and vision.
  • Assists with photography and video of office programs and events, including coordination with professional and student staff.
  • Supports student staff development through design review, guidance and direction.
  • Serves on various office committees.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or a design-related field.
  • Minimum one year of graphic design and production experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and other relevant applications for producing high-quality digital content.
  • Strong technical illustration skills.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles (typography, color theory, composition, etc.).
  • Strong sense of concept development and awareness of design trends.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • A client-driven mindset is essential, with a strong emphasis on responsiveness, professionalism, and delivering high-quality results that meet or exceed expectations.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple projects concurrently in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, and students.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum two years of professional experience on a marketing, communications or design/production team.
  • Minimum two years of graphic design and production experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in publication layout.
  • Working knowledge of AI-powered tools that can expedite and automate aspects of the design and editing process. Familiarity with platforms such as Adobe Firefly, Canva's AI features, DALL*E, Runway ML, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Motion Design and Photography.
Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
