We are seeking a motivated and experienced Space-Based Interceptor Systems Engineering and Integration Technical Advisor supporting APL's role as the Technical Direction Agent. The focus of the role is on the mission engineering, studies, analysis, system development and performance, and test and evaluation of the Space Based Interceptor program. This is a full-time position on-site at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

As the SBI SE&I Technical Advisor you will...

  • Provide on-site mission and systems engineering, integration, and test and evaluation expertise to the Space Force, Space Systems Command, Space Combat Power (SSC/SZ) Program Executive Office
  • Regularly inform APL management chain and Government sponsor regarding progress, challenges, and risks associated with SBI development efforts
  • Identify, plan, and execute focused technical studies on behalf of the sponsor in coordination with the technical points of contact within the APL team as well as other national labs and contractors
  • Perform technical evaluation of SBI concepts and proposals
  • Coordinate and collaborate with SBI Program contractors to provide expertise to the SBI government leadership team.
  • Provide quick-reaction and reach-back capabilities to enable the sponsor connection to the larger APL TDA team
  • Advise the program integrator in acquisition oversight, design reviews and strategic planning meetings.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics
  • Have 10+ years of applicable experience in missile launch systems, development, and missile defense flight testing, and defensive kill chains involving a kinetic interceptor
  • Have shown a demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex program tasks independently with little supervision
  • Have knowledge and experience with the systems engineering process
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Hold a current Top-Secret clearance with the ability to be successfully submitted for SCI/SAP security clearances. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Frequent travel to sponsor sites, test ranges, and contractor locations is expected.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics
  • Have 12+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Have previous experience as serving as an embedded technical advisor to the government
  • Hold an active TS/SCI Clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
