Location

This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Office located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Manager of PPA Operations works independently with minimal supervision and is responsible for collaborating with various analytics teams and business partners across the enterprise, as well as external regulatory agencies such as the MPSC, third-party power providers, and MISO market participants, including peer utilities. This position oversees the financial settlement of the Sarbanes Oxley-controlled $0.9 billion annual portfolio of the Company's Power Purchase Agreements. Responsibilities include having expertise in and managing a data warehouse, designing extraction and data loading functions, testing designs, data modeling, and ensuring the smooth operation of applications. Additionally, this role owns the requirements for building analytic tools, assembling and validating data, reporting, creating data visualizations, and compiling large, complex data sets for BI reporting. Finally, the Manager ensures the accuracy of generation and financial settlement data, which is essential for the enterprise's accounting, financial SEC reporting, and cost recovery filings used to collect revenue from retail customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities




  • Manage Analysts and the Contract Manager in interpreting contract language for billing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and coordinate with counterparties.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Regulatory teams on testimony, exhibits, and discovery related to PPA expenses in Power Supply Cost Recovery proceedings.
  • Validate and approve monthly PPA invoices after they are processed by Analysts.
  • Coordinate with General Accounting on monthly PPA expenses, new contracts, and booking procedures.
  • Track and manage PPA unit operational data, and work with ESO Operations, ESO developers, and the Applications and Analytics team on BI reporting, KPIs, and other data reporting.
  • Coordinate with MPSC, ESO Operations, regulatory, rates, and accounting groups on PPA data and contract information requests.
  • Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley tracking controls related to PPA invoicing for internal controls and third-party audits.
  • Perform other non-essential duties as assigned or as necessary.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Experience in interpreting contract language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization; includes expertise in data visualization.
  • Proficient in complex data set analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various settlement and operation processes, including physical, financial, and regulatory aspects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.



Education and Experience




  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, computer science, data analytics, or a related field with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in wholesale utility markets, including capacity, energy, and ancillary market offers, strategy, contracting, or settlements. Must have experience reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, statutes, tariffs, and lawsuits. Experience managing datasets, performing data analysis, and developing, implementing, utilizing, and enhancing the performance of databases is required.


  • (OR) Associate's degree in business, finance, computer science, data analytics or related field with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in wholesale utility markets, including capacity, energy, and ancillary market offers, strategy, contracting, or settlements. Must have experience reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, statutes, tariffs, and lawsuits. Experience managing datasets, performing data analysis, and developing, implementing, utilizing, and enhancing the performance of databases is required.
  • (OR) High school diploma with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in wholesale utility markets, including capacity, energy, and ancillary market offers, strategy, contracting, or settlements. Must have experience reading and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, statutes, tariffs, and lawsuits. Experience managing datasets, performing data analysis, and developing, implementing, utilizing, and enhancing the performance of databases is required.
