Job Summary Phoenix College is hiring a Student Services Specialist, Sr. (Short-Term) in Advisement. Academic Advisors play a vital role in guiding students toward success, whether they are working towards a degree or a certificate to go into the workforce. This position provides personalized support to help them navigate course selection, registration, transfer pathways, and academic goals while connecting them to essential resources. The additional responsibilities of this role include supporting student success initiatives such as Guided Pathways, collaborating with faculty and other student services areas, and leading group advising sessions. Academic Advisors engage in student outreach and retention efforts, ensuring students stay on track toward their goals. This position also assists with New Student Orientations (Bear Trax) and My College Orientation, as well as assists with our virtual services (chat). Renewal is based on the needs of MCCCD. Essential Functions 35% - Advises students by appointment, walk-in, electronically, and over the phone or as elevated by other student services staff. Identifies resources needed to address students' circumstances and potential barriers. Researches and assists in analyzing and interpreting guidelines and regulations, specifically around program/degree requirements. 30% - Coordinates projects, events, and activities related to academic advising, orientation, and enrollment management. Coordinates workflow and the implementation of academic advising policies and procedures. Performs more technically complex and difficult student advising and processing. Prepares reports, maintains records, and tracks students' performance and progress. May evaluate admissions data such as transcripts and transfer credit. 25% - Prepares, designs, and maintains correspondence, reports, presentations, program materials, and documentation. Coordinates and maintains database information and reporting systems. Provides training or orientation to other staff, as assigned. 10%- Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
