About the Skillbridge Internship Program:

Calvert Systems is proud to be an approved partner under the DoD SkillBridge Program under DoD Instruction 1322.29. The Calvert Systems SkillBridge Internship Program is an opportunity for transitioning military service members to gain valuable, civilian, work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. This program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Calvert Systems, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. During this program the service member will be required to be on-site performing entry to mid-level job duties working a full-time schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week.

SkillBridge Internship Program Goals:

Offer transitioning service members skilled and experienced training that they will be able to use in the civilian workforce. SkillBridge Interns will serve as a pipeline for regular, full-time employment opportunities at Calvert Systems.

SkillBridge Internship Program Objectives:

Service Members completing the Internship program will be introduced to Calvert Systems' Mission, Vision and Values while being fully trained on how we execute to create long-lasting relationships, achieve company growth initiatives, and overall successes for us and our customers.

As a SkillBridge Intern working technical aspects of the Business Operations Intern position you will be responsible for gaining insight into DoD contracting processes and contracting business operations including learning from, assisting and shadowing Calvert's Director of Contracts, Finance, Human Resources, Security, Business Development, Program Manager and C-Staff. This internship is designed to provide a strong foundation in federal contracting practices, small business programs, and internal corporate functions.

Who You Are and What You Need:



  • DoD SkillBridge eligibility required

    • Service Member must be within 12 months of separation or retirement
    • Service Member must receive written authorization and approval from the Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship
    • Service Member must be in good military standing with expectation to receive an honorable discharge
    • Service Member must have started the TAPS/TGPS program





What You Will Do:



  • Gain firsthand experience in the world of DoD contracting and corporate business operations through a structured blend of observation, self-paced training, and shadowing senior leadership. This internship is designed to provide a strong foundation in federal contracting practices, small business programs, and internal corporate functions.

    • Get Oriented with Calvert Systems by participating in company onboarding and learning the basics of government contracts and our operational structure


  • Train Through DAU Coursework

    • Register for and complete core Defense Acquisition University (DAU) courses, including: CON 1100: Contract Foundational Skills, SBP 120: Contract Lifecycle for Small Business Professionals, CLM 059: Fundamentals of Small Business for the Acquisition Workforce, SBP 1010: Intro to Small Business Programs (Part A), SBP 2010: Intermediate Small Business Programs (Part A) with the option to enroll in elective DAU courses based on individual interests


  • Shadow Key Leadership by observing day-to-day operations across departments including:

    • Contracts
    • Finance
    • Human Resources
    • Security
    • Business Development
    • Program Management
    • Executive (C-level) Leadership


  • Participate in Weekly Rotations

    • Rotate through various departments to gain a deeper understanding of how business operations are integrated and managed across the organization


  • Build Practical Skills

    • Learn how cross-functional teams work together in a defense contracting environment
    • Gain exposure to the lifecycle of government contracts, small business regulations, and project management processes


  • Professional Development

    • Up to 4 hours per day may be allocated toward Project Management Professional (PMP) study through an accredited school if aligned with your academic or professional goals
