Summary of This Role The Product Owner - AP Software is a critical, execution-focused role responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of solutions within our Accounts Payable (AP) platform, with a focus on invoice automation, user experience (UX), and reporting & analytics. Reporting to the Director of Product Management, you will collaborate with Product Managers and will serve as the primary liaison between the strategic product team and the dedicated engineering team. Your main responsibility is to translate high-level product strategy into detailed, prioritized, and actionable user stories, managing the engineering backlog, and guaranteeing that the delivered product meets the defined business objectives and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Backlog Management & Execution
Own and manage the team backlog: Define, refine, prioritize, and sequence the backlog (epics, features, user stories, tasks) based on direction from the Product Manager and engineering dependencies. Detailed Requirements Definition: Translate high-level product requirements, themes, and wireframes into clear, concise, and detailed user stories with defined acceptance criteria that are ready for immediate development. Just-In-Time Planning: Ensure the engineering team always has a sufficient queue of well-defined and prioritized work for upcoming sprints. Agile Expertise: Actively participate in all Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, serving as the single source of truth for product requirements.
Development Liaison & Acceptance
Requirements Clarity: Serve as the primary contact for the engineering and QA teams, answering questions, clarifying requirements, and quickly resolving impediments related to scope or functionality during the sprint. Acceptance Testing: Formally inspect, test, and accept completed user stories against the defined acceptance criteria, verifying that the delivered solution meets the functional and non-functional requirements. Quality Assurance: Collaborate with QA to ensure comprehensive test coverage for all new and updated AP features.
Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
Delivery Tracking: Monitor and communicate progress, velocity, and delivery forecasts to the Senior Product Manager and relevant stakeholders, escalating risks and blockers as necessary. Product Knowledge: Maintain a deep understanding of the current state of the AP platform, specifically regarding invoice automation, UX flows, and reporting capabilities, to inform delivery decisions.
Internal Communication
Requirements Experience & Skills
3+ years of professional experience, with at least 2 years as a Product Owner or Business Analyst in a software development environment. Proven experience working within an Agile/Scrum team environment, with experience in managing software backlogs using tools like Jira, or similar. Familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP) processes, workflows, and challenges, ideally within a B2B SaaS or financial technology context. Strong ability to write clear, unambiguous, and testable user stories and acceptance criteria. Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between business strategy (the "why") and technical implementation (the "how"). Basic technical aptitude to discuss implementation details and potential trade-offs with engineers (e.g., familiar with micro-services, APIs, and front-end development).
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner - CSPO) are a plus.
