The Custom Gripper Design Engineer - TruBend Cell is responsible for understanding our customers' parts and to design custom gripping solutions for their automated bending solutions.

Gripper Design Engineer Responsibilities

  • Review 3D models and drawings submitted by customers to evaluate feasibility for TRUMPF's robotic bending solution

  • Design custom grippers using CAD, keeping in mind suitability for the machine, ease of use, and cost

  • Create engineering drawings for manufacturing of the grippers

  • Create model files for custom grippers for customers to use them in their programming software

  • Assist in manufacturing grippers as required

  • Assist in testing of grippers on machine as required

  • Stay up-to-date on TRUMPF gripping solutions

  • Manage inventory and order materials

  • Generate BOMs and assist in making quotes for grippers as required

  • Own gripper projects from initial analysis till successful integration into the customers application

Experience

  • One year experience in an automated bending environment required, more strongly preferred.

  • One year or more of experience with CAD/CAM (SolidWorks or others) is required.

  • Basic knowledge of blueprint reading, electronics, and pneumatics is needed.

  • Basic knowledge on SAP and PTC Windchill are a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are essential, as the role involves direct and frequent interaction with customers, sales teams, and internal departments.

Education

Associate's degree in engineering/manufacturing with a solid math background or the suitable equivalent of education and work experience.
