Job Overview:

The Anesthesia Technician provides assistance to the licensed anesthesia providers in various settings with the acquisition and preparation of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician performs cleaning, disinfection, stocking and maintenance of the routine anesthesia equipment and monitoring devices.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three to twelve months' prior hospital-related experience
  • BLS

Preferred:

  • One to three years prior supply processing and distribution experience
  • Knowledge of Operating Room procedures and aseptic techniques

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem scheduling

Essential Functions:

  • * Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the anesthesia storage/work areas and all anesthesia workstations on a daily basis
  • * Inspects, maintains and replaces, as necessary, a safe and secure sharps disposal system
  • * Ensures cleanliness of equipment cleaning area
  • * Maintains supply stock in all anesthesia workstations
  • * Carbon dioxide absorbers and cleaned/exchanged weekly
  • * Ensures proper handling of equipment to maintain usability and safety, troubleshoots and reports needed repairs inclusive of checking returned equipment.
  • * Ensures availability of necessary equipment for each operating room.
  • * Prepares and assembles necessary equipment
  • * Assembles and assists with operation of any specialized equipment
  • * Maintains composure and performs well during emergency situations
  • * Demonstrates timeliness in all duties, particularly, preparation for emergency procedures
  • * Assists anesthesia professional staff as requested
  • * Assists and anticipates the needs of anesthesiologists in invasive monitor insertion and procedures, fiber optic intubation and/or difficult airway situations.
  • * Anticipates need for invasive monitoring according to daily OR schedule
  • * Prepares OR for a daily caseload according to licensing restrictions, inclusive of: preparation of laryngoscope and intubation equipment and supplies, setting up of IV warning device and preparation of additional monitors
  • * Demonstrates dependability in department technician call coverage and overtime coverage as reasonably requested
  • * Provides interoperative auto transfusion services as requested for non-cardiac elective and emergency procedures
  • * Participates in call coverage for the provision of interoperative auto transfusion services
  • * Prepares and assembles disposables and operates auto transfusion equipment consistent with departmental policy and procedural guidelines
  • * Maintains cleanliness and preparation of auto transfusion equipment and supplies
  • * Provides an estimate of blood loss via auto transfusion unit and total volume re-infused
  • * Assists with monitoring and evaluation of auto transfusion service quality and effectiveness
  • * Promotes and maintains positive relationships with all contacts
  • * Facilitates resolution of conflicts and problems as appropriate
  • * Promotes interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships
  • * Adopts team approach to duties
  • * Maintains a professional attitude toward patients, physicians, staff and visitors
  • * Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively
  • * Complies with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures
  • * Adheres to hospital and departmental code of conduct
  • * Complies with conditions of employment
  • * Conforms to hospital policies related to allocated time period for breaks and meals
  • * Limits non-emergent personal calls to breaks and meal times
