Job Summary:

The AVP of Emergency Psychiatric Services provides leadership and operational oversight for all psychiatric screening centers and affiliated emergency services within the RWJBarnabas Health system. This role is accountable for maintaining and expanding psychiatric screening service affiliations and agreements, as well as developing, implementing, and maintaining emergency psychiatric services at sites that do not have a screening service. TheAVP is responsible for establishing standardized policies, protocols, and practices ensuring safe, consistent, and high quality care across all facilities. In addition, the role oversees the evaluation and performance of the crisis professional teams and collaborates with the emergency department and inpatient leadership to optimize patient throughput, strengthen system integration, and enhance overall outcomes. Ensure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing and/or related field.
  • Preferred Certified NJ Mental Health Screener or immediate certification eligible.
  • Minimum of five years post-masters in a psychiatric setting; two years supervisory exp. required.

Committee Chairs

  • Attends the Mental Health Board meetings and participates as necessary. Attends the Professional Advisory Committee. Establishes andmaintains affiliation agreements with other Mental Health Agencies. Insures agencies follow established mental health emergency procedures.

Affiliations

  • Establishes and maintains Affiliation Agreements with hospitals, police departments, and other social service agencies. Chairs System ReviewCommittee. Serves as faculty member of Ocean County Police Academy. Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) faculty for Ocean, Monmouth and EssexCounties.

Networking

  • Responsible for negotiation and contracting for all behavioral health facilities. Initiate, develop, manage, and evaluate all programs, policies, andoperational procedures of the RWJBH Behavioral Health Network. Identify unmet service needs and identify and obtain potential funding sourcesfor continuation and/or expansion of services. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice President.

Development

  • Will look to develop and/or expand a psychiatric ED component and living room model services when appropriate along with establishing andproviding ongoing evaluation of crisis professional teams. Maintains system wide oversight.
