Overview

The Principal Consultant for TRC Companies' Integrated Planning & Advisory (IP&A) division plays a pivotal role in leading consulting engagements for energy and utility clients. Advisory Principals are part of the IP&A Advisory team. The Advisory Principal will have primary responsibility for leading quality services to clients by supporting client proposals, delivering high-quality client engagements, fostering client relationships, and providing thought leadership to support clients in achieving their strategic goals. The position requires a strong blend of consulting expertise, industry insight, and a passion for leading exceptional client engagements and for mentoring team members.


Responsibilities

1. Client Engagement Delivery

  • Lead projects, coordinating planning and documentation by organizing deliverables, timelines, and data for internal and client-facing use.
  • Anticipates customer needs and reacts accordingly.
  • Manages ongoing working relationships with major customers to ensure creative solutions.
  • Be a recognized and effective relationship facilitator including with partners.
  • Facilitate and lead workshops, stakeholder meetings, and working sessions.
  • Prepare polished presentations and deliverables tailored for stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with technical teams and senior consultants to execute consulting engagements.

2. Planning and Decision Making

  • Can cope with ambiguity well and understand the connections and interactions within complex problems.
  • Able to move from analysis to synthesis and can quickly implement the proper action to anticipate and solve sensitive problems in a complex environment.
  • Able to prioritize, make and explain choices and use professional judgment in making decisions in complex or multi-disciplinary problems.
  • Considers long term implications and analyzes risks.

3. Technical Leadership and Innovation

  • Supporting clients in navigating organizational change and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Bring commercially viable solutions to clients by thinking beyond what they are asking for and other ways to satisfy their requirements and needs
  • Drive an innovative mindset throughout the organization, causing others to evaluate opportunities to do things better
  • Always evaluating other areas within the client's ecosystem to develop new solutions
  • Looking within the client's project and other parts of their business to drive new business opportunities for TRC.

Qualifications

1. Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Business or Engineering degree from an accredited school or university.
  • Twenty or more years of experience in the utility industry or a consulting environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload.
  • Comfortable creating high-quality documentation, research materials and polished presentations for clients.
  • Ability to interact professionally with client stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Excellent organizational skills

2. Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree from an accredited school or university
  • Subject Matter Expertise in topics related to the utilities consulting industry, such as strategy, transformation, change management, etc.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in technologies related to the utilities industry, such as OMS, EMS, ADMS, GIS, Remote Sensing, etc.
  • Experience authoring presentations, articles, and other collateral relevant to the energy and utility industries.
  • Proactive attitude toward continuous improvement and process optimization.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
