Schedule: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM | Nights | Mainly Rotating weekends/ rotating holidays


Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to join our Emergency Department Behavioral Health team. The Night Shift NP provides high-quality psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting with acute mental health crises. This position plays a key role in maintaining 24/7 behavioral health coverage and ensuring timely, safe, and patient-centered psychiatric care within the emergency setting.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong diagnostic skills, crisis intervention expertise, and collaborative communication with interdisciplinary teams, including emergency medicine physicians, social work, nursing, and security.


Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and mental status examinations for patients presenting with psychiatric or behavioral emergencies.

* Diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders, substance-induced conditions, and comorbid medical-psychiatric presentations.

* Determine and document appropriate disposition plans, including inpatient admission, observation, or safe discharge with outpatient follow-up.

* Collaborate with emergency department staff, psychiatrists, and crisis teams to ensure safe, efficient patient flow.

* Utilize validated screening tools such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) to assess suicide and violence risk.

* Initiate psychopharmacologic treatment in collaboration with emergency medicine physicians and crisis stabilization measures when indicated.

* Complete thorough documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) consistent with hospital, state, and Joint Commission standards.

* Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.


Qualifications:

* Education: Master's or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited PMHNP program.

* Certification: Current PMHNP-BC (Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified).

* Licensure: Active state RN and APRN licenses, DEA, and controlled substance registration.

* Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of psychiatric experience (preferably in emergency, crisis stabilization, or inpatient psychiatry).

* Skills: Strong diagnostic reasoning, crisis intervention, teamwork, and familiarity with involuntary commitment and behavioral health law.

Salary Range: Minimum 53.15/hour - Maximum 82.38/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
