About the Department
All North Carolina 4-H Camps are managed and operated under North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service through the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences ( CALS) at North Carolina State University, one of two land-grant universities in the state. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land and economy of North Carolinians. Each Center is managed by a full-time Center Director and supported by Program Directors, Facility Maintenance Supervisors, Food Service Supervisors, and seasonal team members dedicated to providing safe and exceptional facilities, programs and services for the citizens of North Carolina.

The 4-H Youth Development Department is one of the four components of the Cooperative Extension Service. The department ties directly into the USDA as a Federal partner. The 4-H Youth Department program is the youth education arm of the USDA, thus has ties with all 50 states as a National effort in youth development. The department provides leadership and program support to field faculty in all 100 counties. The outreach of these efforts involves over 200,000 youth and 25,000 volunteers. The department operates, supports, staffs, and designs programs at five education centers. This position will be assigned to the Eastern 4-H Environmental Education Conference Center which is a year-round conference and training facility operated as an extension of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, North Carolina State University and administered through the Department of 4-H Youth Development and the Cooperative Extension Service. The mission of the Center is to provide year-round training and educational programs for: youth, community groups, business and corporate sector and University students and faculty. The Center provides lodging, food service, and programming.

Essential Job Duties
The Retreats & Rentals Director position provides overall leadership, management and coordination of retreat groups and weekend rentals throughout the calendar year for programs at Eastern 4-H Center.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overall management and coordination of weekend rental, retreat groups, and special events throughout the calendar year.
  • Meet with potential user groups and facilitate tours as requested.
  • Management of reservation and contract process with all rental and retreat groups.
  • Responsible for securing lodging/room layouts, dietary needs, and program waiver forms from user groups.
  • Provide on-site guest services by preparing event signage, guest keys, and other services requested by the user group.
  • Required on-call coverage for weekend groups on a rotational basis with other Center staff.
  • Coordination with other staff for facilitation of all rental and user groups when required.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and coordinator for all user groups during the non-summer camp season.
  • Assist in the cleaning of facilities and equipment as necessary.
  • Work with Food Service and Maintenance supervisors to provide facility and support needs of user groups.
  • Work with the Program Director when user groups have requested on-site programming needs.
  • Develop and implement marketing and recruitment plans and supporting materials as needed in support of user groups and special event programs.
  • Serve on the Center's leadership team.
  • Develop liaison and or membership with organizations in areas of outdoor and environmental education. Utilize the American Camp Association to the fullest extent possible.
  • Provide support as an instructor or group contact for programs other than those for which leadership is given when needed and scheduling allows including non-program groups and overnight groups.


Program Marketing and User Support:

  • Development of brochures and information pieces that accurately reflect the needs of the Center.
  • Maintain the Center's social media accounts year round.
  • Capturing and developing year round items for marketing pieces through photographs, brochures, etc.
  • Develop a marketing plan on an annual basis taking into account Center availability and potential supplement to Center income.
  • Serve as the primary contact for users by making contact with program coordinators (and where necessary, individuals) for programs in the area to which leadership is given after scheduling is confirmed and as needed to meet the groups programmatic needs, answer questions and provide support.

Center and Program Support and Resource Development:

  • Collaborating with the Center Director and members of the NC 4-H Development Fund to conduct assigned fund development activities. This may include our annual fundraising event (Dock of the Bay) and Community events such as Potato Tuesday.
  • Provide support to the Center Advisory Board and committees related to program areas under his/her leadership.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in the areas of Education, Recreation or Counseling, other similar field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in working with young people
  • Knowledge of 4-H programs and Land Grant University mission
