Essential Job Duties
As an accountant plays for the Pool College of Management you will play a key role in managing the day-to-day financial operations, upholding compliance with Federal Cost Accounting Standards, State of North Carolina, and NC State University guidelines. Additionally, you will support the College's financial health through careful monitoring, reporting, and analysis of a wide range of state and non-state funds, including premium tuition revenues. Reporting to to the College's financial leadership team and you will serve as a trusted advisor on accounting practices and budget decisions.
Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor state-appropriated, premium tuition, and non-state funds to ensure compliance and resolve unallowable expenses.
  • Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial reports, payroll data, and monthly/quarterly budget statements.
  • Process budget transactions, journal vouchers, and project requests while maintaining accurate chartfield data.
  • Research and resolve financial transaction issues involving vouchers, reimbursements, and PCard activity.
  • Review and refine internal procedures to improve financial accuracy and efficiency.
  • Serve as a resource for interpreting university and state financial policies and implementing sound accounting practices.
  • Collaborate with departments and college leadership to assess funding needs, monitor deficits, and recommend solutions.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliation in a large, complex organization.
  • Understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, and governmental accounting standards (GASB).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret fiscal regulations and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with financial and spreadsheet tools such as Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial management experience of at least 3 years; bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complete Federal and State fiscal regulations to analyze and correct accounting and financial problems and errors; ability to make changes in the accounting system and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of university administration.
  • Extensive knowledge with coding expenses and properly using the chart of accounts.
  • State, federal or higher education budget development experience.
