We are seeking a Commercial Roofing Quality Control & Safety Director for our Bloomington, IN shop.
The Commercial Roofing Quality & Safety Director will lead all functional areas related to quality assurance and safety-risk management across the Unit. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing roof inspections, safety training programs, incident and claims management, investigations, and the administration of safety and quality initiatives aligned with the Unit's strategic goals. The primary focus of this role is to ensure consistent roofing quality and a culture of safety throughout operations, while introducing innovative approaches that foster teamwork, enhance employee morale, and support organizational growth.
Job Functions:
- Maintain quality control of all commercial roofing projects in accordance with industry and technical specifications.
- Train and apply knowledge of commercial roofing best practices to field personnel during site inspections and training sessions.
- Manage the onboarding process including safety orientation, ensuring that all new hires join the Company in a positive manner and with an appropriate level of roofing education and safety awareness including introduction to the Tecta Safety Program.
- Regularly inspect jobsites, fleet, equipment, tools and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. Lead the Unit's Operations team in the continuous self-evaluation and correction of roofing installation & safety requirements, to facilitate the behavior-based safety approach throughout the organization.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and operational processes, including with respect to the Tecta Safety Program.
- Conduct safety training and education programs, covering key aspects of the Unit's safe operations. Organize, prepare and lead the Unit's annual Safety Day event.
- Investigate work related accidents and injuries, including interviewing employees or other individuals relating to the incident, to determine causes and preventive measures. Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities/jobsite inspections, or environmental testing.
- Manage safety related incidents and claims to minimize loss exposure commensurate with the Company's business goals, including with respect to workers' compensation, general liability, and automobile incidents. Coordinate efforts with and report to Tecta America loss control team.
- Manage interactions with OSHA including any investigations, determinations and resolutions.
- Attend and provide appropriate input at Unit operational meetings including pre-construction and production meetings.
- Attend meetings with customers to address safety related requirements for projects either anticipated or in progress.
- Visit upcoming projects to identify site conditions and/or exposures, and address safety and risk management needs.
- Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards. Identify, propose and lead the implementation of various safety equipment. Demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Conduct meetings with supervisors and employees to discuss such points as the standards, cited violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards and to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues and risk management.
- Identify and implement internal communication initiatives, such as regular and periodic tool box talks, to increase understanding and commitment to safety and risk management aspects of the Unit's business operations.
- Plan, organize, establish objectives and goals, and execute projects assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems & safety-related practices and procedures
- Computer skills and knowledge of office software packages including Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates
- Strong knowledge of safety technical subjects, including OSHA regulations
