Shift C: Monday - Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.; Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Typical Summer hours: Monday - Thursday, 10 hours/day.

Job Summary

Chandler-Gilbert Community College is hiring a STEM Program Coordinator to work in conjunction with our current Program Coordinator in the Tutoring/Learning Center. This position provides direction to staff in the learning center, back up support for STEM tutoring (math, chemistry, biology, engineering, computer programming, physics), training for tutors, collaboration with faculty on workshops for students, and operational support in the learning center.

Essential Functions

50% - Provides lead direction for STEM student learning facilitators (tutors) in face to face and online environments; directs the work of student learning facilitators; mentors and coaches student learning facilitators on best practices; serves as back up for STEM tutors; collaborates with faculty to ensure adequate reinforcement of classroom instruction across the curriculum; develops resources for and trains student learning facilitators; and assists with the recruitment and hiring of student learning facilitators.

30% - Assists with the development and implementation of tutoring initiatives and other learning support activities; assists in the maintenance of department records, tracking platforms, small and large group presentations about the center services; maintains close relationships with academic divisions and services departments; in conjunction with faculty learning center faculty liaisons, develops and delivers resource materials, instructional aides, workshops and presentations to students suitable for all levels of STEM knowledge; responds to academic support inquiries; solves problems in accordance with policies and procedures; and assists in the development and implementation of program guidelines, forms, policies and procedures.

20% - Utilizes appropriate software and technology in order to execute tutoring responsibilities (MS office programs, Canvas, TracCloud, Google Workspace, and/or equivalent); researches information related to trends and best practices in post-secondary academic support and assigned disciplines; collects, monitors, reviews and compiles pertinent learning support and/or assessment data; and performs other duties as assigned commensurate to grade level of position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business or public administration, or a directly related field and one year of experience in researching information, gathering data, performing preliminary analysis and preparing reports.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Related degrees may include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Programming, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics.

Desired Qualifications

1. Bachelor Degree in STEM field, Education, or related field. STEM fields: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Programming, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics
2. Two (2) or more years experience tutoring or teaching in a field of STEM in a comprehensive learning center in an institution of higher education or similar setting.
3. Two (2) or more years experience providing one-on-one or small group instructional support for multiple STEM areas and/or various levels (i.e. foundational, 100 level, 200 level courses) of STEM area from list above for a diverse population of students in a high school, college, or university.
4. One (1) or more years experience being a team lead or directing the work of others, including designing training materials, and/or conducting workshops or presentations, with specific examples.
5. Experience using STEM software, such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, LoggerPro, Desmos, and/or equivalent software with specific experience using this technology to impact student learning.
6. Experience with document editing (e.g., MS Office and Google Workspace), personnel tracking, visit data collection software (e.g., TracCloud), and Learning Management systems (e.g., Canvas).

Special Working Conditions
  • May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.
  • May involve prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Work environment includes moderate to high noise levels, primarily from multiple ongoing conversations.
  • Schedule may vary and could include evenings and weekends as needed.
