This position is for a Software Ground Integration Engineer (GIE) with the KLXS III contract Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) group supporting NASA's Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at Kennedy Space Center supporting the Artemis mission to send astronauts back to the moon. This work involves software technical integration efforts across the EGS, Orion and Space Launch System (SLS) elements, as well as various engineering disciplines throughout the product life cycle. As a Software GIE, responsible for Program Requirement technical content and allocations to subsystems and their integration and management, including requirement verbiage and closure. Ensure parent/child requirements have accurate traceability and sufficient decomposition. Work with Ground and Flight Application Software (GFAS) subsystems to ensure they are aware of requirements changes that may affect their designs. Evaluate and assess technical issues regarding ground systems and determine proper resolutions, either through trade studies or assessments. This may include reviewing and reporting technical data and products developed by other contractors and Programs. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the requirement development and change process for the Ground and Flight Application Software Teams (GFAST). Perform requirements development / integration / traceability / closure.
- Assess how Change Requests (CRs) affect assigned GFAST requirements, cost, and schedule. Recommend the approval/disapproval of CRs to Program Technical Management.
- Support project and subsystem System Acceptance Reviews (SAR) and Design Certification Reviews (DCR) to collect and assess design compliance data for Program level requirements closure evidence.
- Develop and manage verification and validation (V&V) objectives for Program and Element level requirements through completion of V&V. Provide systems engineering and integration support to Ground and Flight Software (GFAS) testing during processing operations as well as launch countdown support from the Firing Room Integration Console.
- Evaluate and assess technical issues regarding ground systems. Determine proper resolutions, either through trade studies or assessments.
- Provide alternatives for resolving these issues to Contract Management, Technical Management, and NASA Program Management. * Responsible for defining and maintaining document development and reviews.
Minimum Requirements:
- Participate in technical reviews and provide impact assessments.
- Conduct studies and initiate/assess Change Requests.
- Recommend innovations to existing processes, procedures, development cycles, requirement tracking and other areas within the scope of this position .
- Monitor and review action items and meet with assignee for resolution.
- Required knowledge: MS Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
- Required skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction yet is also comfortable working in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Perform systems engineering and software integration functions to support aerospace programs/projects involving spacecraft, launch vehicle, associated ground systems, command and control systems, or high-tech facility systems.
- Develop, integrate, and implement software requirements and technical integration / processes to meet mission objectives.
- Effective and clear communicator with the ability to present technical issues.
- Self-starter with outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment co-located with customers, NASA and other contractors.
- Proven work as a cohesive team member with many different technical experts in a dynamic schedule-driven environment.
- Flexible to changing work demands, multi-task, operate with minimal direct supervision, and meet all customer deadlines. Work on-site at KSC 5 days per week. Occasional shift work may be assigned to support operational needs.
Education and Relevant Work Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) required, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or Industrial & Systems Engineering.
- Minimum 4 years of related experience is required. Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use in complex situations. Familiarity with NASA and Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) is a plus.
